Pit road
Let’s take a poll – Raise your hand if you have ever skipped a snack or meal in order to lose weight? It’s okay, be honest. That’s a lot of hands that just went up. The fact of the matter is that we’ve all done it at some point.
Deep down, we all know that this is the wrong approach. Still, this deprivation type of dieting still occurs.
Feed the machine
The human body requires fuel, just like a car. You can’t expect to take a 500 mile trip without a full tank of gas (and probably a refill along the way), would you? The same reasoning is just as true with our bodies. To make it though the day, we have to feed the machine. At DietBlog, they suggest getting organized in order to avoid “accidentally” skipping meals.
When we don’t top off our tank, the body finds ways of powering itself. The misconception of most people is that the body will do so using body fat. Unfortunately it’s muscle that is sacrificed in these situations. That’s bad, mmm-kay.
Not surprisingly, Anne Fletcher at Girl Get Stong has found that teenage girls that are successful at losing weight and keeping it off do not skip breakfast.
Cross the finish line
The plan is simple-eat. Select foods that are good sources of energy. Figure out how many calories you require based on your Body Mass Index (BMI). Balance your calories throughout the day. For instance, maybe eat three 500 calorie meals, and three 100 calorie snacks. Spread these out evenly throughout the day.
A meal plan such as this will assure that you are not hungry during the day. Your body will always have an energy source. Crossing the finish line without skipping a meal is just that easy.

I am so glad this site is back up and running! I love reading the articles, and the comments, of course. I like to hear other people’s input, and to see the success of others.
I fell into this trap when I was trying to lose weight faster. I ended up skipping meals. My body rebelled big time, and I actually started putting weight back on. Great advice.
@Becca – I agree, I missed the site when it was down. Good job guys!
Anne, I think it’s a pretty common mistake. We’re all beat over the head to eat less, but not told how. So, meals are skipped. Bad news. You’re doing better now though, right?
